Minor Flood Warning issued for Brisbane City

12/05/2022

Issued 5pm Thursday 12 May 2022

A minor Flood Warning for Brisbane City has been issued this afternoon as widespread rain continues across much of the state.

A Flood Watch has also been issued for Wide Bay and Burnett, South east Queensland, Darling Downs and Granite Belt areas. This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and creeks should closely monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.

Numerous Flood Warnings are current across the state as rapid rises have occurred along several rivers and creeks in southeast Queensland early this morning. There is an increased risk of flash flooding and landslides as catchments are saturated.

A Major Flood Warning for Warrill Creek and Bremer River is current, with Moderate Flood Warnings for the Mary River and for the upper Brisbane and Stanley Rivers.

A Flood Watch continues for the Fitzroy catchment and the central and southern interior of Queensland.

A severe weather warning is current for parts of Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts, with heavy rainfall developing over the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett district on Friday.

Severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rain and damaging winds will be possible across central, north and the southern interior of the state today.

Damaging winds are possible in the northern interior and with localised thunderstorm activity, especially on the coastline.

Due to the evolving nature of the situation, it is very important that people closely monitor the forecast and warnings.

Communities in these areas are advised to stay up to date via the Bureau's website (www.bom.gov.au/warnings/qld) and the BOM Weather App and follow the advice of emergency services.
